Transaction Risk

This type of risk occurs when company have to pay cash in foreign currency. Transaction risk occurs during that transactional period when company bought raw material from other countries and pay the cost in foreign currency, after manufacturing the goods it was sold on credit in local market. Mostly company offers 90 or 120 days and during that time the value of that foreign currency changed. The risk involves the period between purchase of raw material and payment received from customers.

Economical Risk

This type of risk also effect directly to the company’s cash flow. This risk involves in future product sales. As the exchange rate changes the prediction of future sales or cash receipt and payment changes which not only affect the profitability of company but also affects the efficiency of the company.

Often it results in increase in cost and subsequently increase in prices of that product while competitor still able to sale in same price as they do not have that unfavorable currency devaluation.

Translation Risk

This type of risk occurs when a company have to translate its foreign assets in their local currency to get the consolidated figure of their local and foreign assets for their consolidated financial accounts in order to maintain the balance sheet and income statement. During that translation period currency rate can move into unfavorable direction which results in un –accurate figures.

Calculation of Currency Risk

Regardless of trading domestically or internationally, currency risks always important for companies. Often companies hire financial analysts to calculate the future risk. Weather that is economic risk or transaction risk it is important in make or break of a company. Businesses that involve foreign currency trading either for raw material or for sales and export cannot avoid those risks. However by effective calculations the risk can be reduce and the negative effects can be minimized.   Transaction risk involves future cash flows that are known and economic risks involves in future cash flows that are unknown. Where one investor from the United States invests in America, his preference should have been the Currency Shares Canadian Dollar Trust (FXC).  This means, that the investor could have easily hedged the risk by selling short shares of the above mentioned trust.

However, if the investor had an appreciation idea, he would have favored a double up. More specifically, this means that the investor would have avoided hedging the risk and favored to double up at the Canadian dollar. The option could have been exercised by buying the FXC shares.

The Brokerage Account:

Forecast of Euro for the Year 2011

The Euro is used by 16 European countries, as a collective currency. These countries include both strong and weak economies. Strong economies are the Netherlands and Germany, and weak ones include Portugal, Italy, Spain, and Ireland.
